    Book I

    by
    Patrick T. Smith

Zachariah (Zachary) Taylor Friend was the youngest son of Cornelius Ward Friend and Sarah Kemp, grandson of John Friend, Jr. (1764 to 1849) and Elizabeth Ward (1778 to 1845) as well as the great grandson of John Friend, Sr. (1728 to Aft 1808) and Karrenhappuck (Kerrenhappuck) Hyatt (173 to 1798). He was born in 1851 on the family farm to the West of Friendsville, MD near the border of WV. Taylor, as he was known, would marry Elizabeth Emmer Feather in 1877 and they would raise a family of six children (Bruce Friend, Edith Friend, Playford R. Friend, Rhuie B. Friend, Lillie R. Friend, and Jessie Friend) in and around the Friendsville area. These books were formed with birth, marriage, death, and burial records, then expanded with the US Census, family bibles, books, land deeds, wills, estate records, photographs, personal histories, and military accounts. The first chapter of this book has a brief review on the Friend Family genealogy starting with Nils Larsson Friend (Frande), a Swedish immigrant who came to the New World in 1648. This history proceeds to Zachariah’s father, Cornelius Ward Friend. The second chapter features information on Zachariah Taylor Friend and his wife, Elizabeth Emmer Feather, while Chapter III and IV outlines Bruce Friend and Edith Friend, respectively. The remainder of the children are outlined in the Chapter V and will be presented in a second book.

This book contains 592 pages, is fully indexed, and presented in an outline format. Proceeds from the sales of the books (which are published by the FFAA) will go to the FFAA (a non-profit organization). All book sales are tax deductible and final.
