Description
Sarah (Sally) Mary Friend, Robinson T. Savage Jr. and Their Descendants of Sang Run, MD
by
Patrick T. SmithSarah “Sally” Mary Friend lived and died in the Sang Run area of Western Maryland. Sarah was the child of John Friend Jr. (1764 to 1849) and Elizabeth Ward (1778-1845) as well as the granddaughter of John Friend Sr. (1728 to Aft 1808), the patriarch of the Allegany/Garrett County MD Friend Family. Sally was described as having a “bright, beaming disposition (that) carried (her) through her troubles to the end of her days.” Sarah and her first husband Robinson T. Savage Jr. had at least five children (Huldah, Cornelius Ward, Amos Wesley, Holliday and Maria). Her second husband was John Simpson Friend, a cousin and the son of her uncle Gabriel Friend. Sarah and her second husband had no known children, although John Simpson Friend fathered at least eight children. Sarah’s sons, Amos Wesley Savage and Cornelius Ward Savage would marry Mary Friend and Sophia Friend (respectively), the daughters of John Simpson Friend. Sarah lived an ordinary life by some standards, yet her children, grandchildren and descendants would influence people across the country and across time. This book chronicles those families in part and attempts to preserve the history of Sarah’s descendants that began in Sang Run, MD long ago and will continue after this book is published. Due to the large volume of information Cornelius Ward Savage and his descendants will be presented in Cornelius Ward Savage and Mary A. “Polly” Friend of Sang Run, MD. Cornelius, his wife and children will be briefly outlined in the book.
