Samuel Ward Friend and Sarah A. Friend of Garrett County, MD, Book I
    by
    Patrick T. Smith

Samuel Ward Friend and his wife, Sarah A. Friend, were born in Allegany (Garrett) County, MD in the early part of the 19th century. Sarah and Samuel were cousins and descendants of John Friend Sr., founder of the first permanent settlement of new Americans in Western MD. Samuel and Sarah’s father and grandfather (John, Jr. and Joseph, respectively) were the sons of John Friend Sr. They were married on Mar 9, 1845 and built a home as well as a family in the central part of the county on (what would become) Turkeyneck Road between Swanton and Deer Park, MD. The material in this book was collected from hundreds of sources which include the US Census, family bibles, land deeds, wills, estate documents, photographs, personal histories, military accounts as well as birth, death and marriage records. I have attempted to present a small glimpse into the lives of Samuel, Sarah and their children and thousands of descendants.

The information of Samuel and Sarah, as well as, an outline of the Friend Family from Nils Larsson Friend (Frande) to John Friend Jr. will be presented in both books. Book I will feature the families and descendants of Mary B. Friend, Caroline E. Friend and Alice L. Friend, while Book II focuses on those of Sarah Anne Friend, Samuel Ward Friend, Jr., Albert Friend, Evaline H. Friend, Charles E. Friend, James Doliver Friend and Oscar Friend. If a child is featured in one book, they will be briefly outlined in the corresponding text.

Spiral bound books are Black and White and the USB, Download and CD formats are color copies.
