Samuel Ward Friend and Sarah Ann Friend of Garrett County, MD
    Book II
    by
    Patrick T. Smith

Samuel Ward Friend and Sarah Ann Friend were born in the early part of the 19th century. Samuel’s father and Sarah’s grandfather (John, Jr. and Joseph, respectively) were the sons of John Friend Sr., the first “new American” to establish a farm in the Northwestern corner of MD in 1765. That small farm would become Friendsville, MD. Samuel and Sarah married in 1845, built a home and family in the central part of Allegany (Garrett) County. I have found no pictures, family bibles, personal papers or diaries of Samuel and Sarah. I have attempted to build a history of their lives, children and descendant through birth, death and marriage records. This information has been enriched with material from the US Census, land deeds, wills, estate records, personal histories, military accounts, as well as photographs from the later generations.

The information of Samuel and Sarah, as well as, an outline of the Friend Family from Nils Larsson Friend (Frande) to John Friend Jr. will be presented in both books. Book I featured the families and descendants of Mary B. Friend, Caroline E. Friend and Alice L. Friend, while Book II focuses on those of Sarah Anne Friend, Samuel Ward Friend, Jr., Albert Friend, Evaline H. Friend, Charles E. Friend, James Doliver Friend and Oscar Friend. If a child is featured in one book, they will be briefly outlined in the corresponding text.

Spiral bound books are Black and White and the USB, Download and CD formats are color copies.
