    Patty (Friend) Thompson

(The rest of Jacob Friend’s children will be detailed in separate books.)

Jacob Friend, the son of Israel Friend, grandson of Andrew (Anders) Friend and great, grandson of Nils Larsson Friend was born in the early 1730’s.

Shortly after his father Israel’s death, Jacob Friend left his mother’s household and moved to Randolph Co., VA (now WV), where he married Elizabeth Skidmore, the daughter of Joseph Skidmore and Agnes Ann Caldwell. Jacob and Elizabeth lived out their lives in Virginia, where they raised a family of nine known children. Jacob’s grave is in an unknown location in the hills of Friend’s Run, Pendleton County, WV.

Jacob served in the Revolutionary War and in the Virginia Militia under a Captain Patterson. The DAR certified Jacob Friend as a patriot on Sept 11, 1942.

This book is a 605 page documented record presented by the author in an effort to preserve in one volume the life of Jacob Friend. Since no personal diaries or documented stories written by Jacob himself, his life record is represented in the form of US Census records, transcribed deeds, wills, photographs, obituaries, newspaper articles, military documents, birth, marriage and death records in an effort to record his family’s history before it is lost to time.
