Description
Elizabeth “Liz” Friend, Daughter of John Friend, Jr., Book II
by
Patrick T. SmithElizabeth Friend was born in 1821 in Western MD. She was the daughter of John Friend Jr. (Abt 1764 to 1849), Elizabeth Ward (1778 to 1845) and a descendant of Nils Larsson Friend (Frande), a Swedish immigrant that came to the “New World” in 1648. Elizabeth married David Hoye in 1841 and have at least five children (Mary Elizabeth Hoye, William Harrison Hoye, Elijah Hoye, Benjamin Franklin Hoye and Sarah Catherine Hoye). Their lives together was tragically cut short in 1849 with David’s death. Elizabeth married John Friend (of Nicholas) six years later and they were to raise at least four children: Cornelia F. Friend, Joseph Daley Friend, Lafayette Townsend Friend and Bertha A. Friend. Elizabeth was once described as “a widow, well dressed, wearing a black ribbon around her throat that accentuated prematurely white hair, her eyes black and sparkling.” The information of Elizabeth Friend, as well as, an outline of the Friend Family beginning at Nils Larsson Friend (Frande) will be presented in a series of books. Book I will also feature the families and descendants of Mary Elizabeth Hoye, William Harrison Hoye, Elijah Hoye, while Book II focuses on the remaining children: Benjamin Franklin Hoye and Sarah Catherine Hoye, Cornelia F. Friend, Joseph Daley Friend, Lafayette Townsend Friend and Bertha A. Friend. These histories were built with birth, death and marriage records, then expanded with information from the US Census, family bibles, books, land deeds, wills, estate records, photographs, personal histories and military accounts. If a child is featured in one book, they will be briefly outlined in the corresponding text.
